PDPM: Respiratory Treatments and Procedures Competency

Description
Respiratory Therapy is a service provided by both nurses and respiratory therapists. By definition, respiratory therapy includes coughing, deep breathing exercises, incentive spirometry, assessment of lung sounds as well as the delivery of nebulizer therapy.

Nurses are not required to have special certifications or advanced training to perform Respiratory Therapy. The RAI User's Manual defines a “trained nurse” as having received training on the administration of respiratory treatments and procedures that may have been: provided at the facility; during previous work experience; or as part of an academic program.

DynamicRT''s 'Administration of Respiratory Treatments and Procedures Competency' ensures nurses are competent in providing respiratory care and meet RAI User's Manual definition of a a “trained nurse”. Once complete, learners will receive a certificate to provide to the staff educator.
